By CT Hj Mahmod

Bandar Seri Begawan - Two 18-year-olds, Haji Hamidi bin Haji Abdul Walid and Mohd Helmi bin Ali, left Brunei last night to represent the Sultanate in the 12th International al-Quran reading in Kaherah, Saudi Arabia.

Both participants from the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz al-Quran Institute said they would give their best performance and bring home the winner's trophy.

Heading the team is Pengiran Haji Haslin bin Pengiran Haji Ali, an official from the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

The international competition runs from October 30 to November 11 and over sixty countries will compete in two categories.

The first category is the reading of six verses while second category involves the reading of ten verses.

The anniversary of the revelation of the Quran will be commemorated this Sunday.

Brunei Darussalam has been participating in a series of international al-Quran reading competitions.

A team is already competing in Dubai; another team is scheduled to fly oil to Jordan.
