By Zalia Zaini
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The key to a new house was handed over by the Brunei
Muara District Officer to a needy family yesterday morning at Kampong
Peramu, Mukim Peramu.
Dato
Paduka Awg Hj Adrian bin Haji Hanafiah presented the key to Dyg Hajah
Hapsah binti Samsudin to mark the official ownership of the house,
which replaces her 40-year-old dilapidated house in Kampong Lurong
Sekuna, which is declared no longer safe to live in.
The 84-year-old Dayang Hajah Hapsah,
a widow with five children, relies only on her pension and welfare
assistance which limit her financial ability to repair her old house.
Acting Penghulu Mukim Peramu and
Mukim Saba, Tuan Haji Ahmad Bin Hj Bujang, said $25,000 was required
to repair the old house as it is in a very bad state.
However, the hardwork and enthusiasm
shown by Tuan Haji Ahmad and the Brunei Muara District Office in
helping the needy family bore fruit when they found a local resident,
Awg Hj Tuah who was willing to sell his house for only $10,000 as he
was moving to housing scheme in Tungku, Gadong.
A total of $10,000 was contributed by
Awg Chan Sui Kiat, Awg Steven Ong and two individuals who wished to
remain anonymous to acquire the house.
Meanwhile, the Penghulu of Mukim
Peramu, Awg Haji Ismit bin Pengarah Mukim Haji Naim contributed four
rolls of rubber mats and two carpets to be placed at Dyg Hjh Hapsah's
house.
Also present at the key presentation
ceremony was Pehin Dato Paduka Awg Hj Abd Ghani, the Managing Director
of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, who handed over school
stationery to Dyg Rosni Bte Hj Ismail's children.
The Brunei Muara District Office
welcomes various forms of contributions from the private sector and
individuals to help the needy as part of the efforts to nurture a
caring society.--
