Sultan,Singapore Premier Mull
Bilateral Ties At Istana
Bandar Seri
Begawan – His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan of
Brunei, received in audience the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee
Hsien Loong at Istana Nurul Iman yesterday.

Also present was His Royal Highness
Prince Mohammed Bolkiah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The Prime Minister of Singapore's
delegation included Teo Chee Hean, the Minister for Foreign
Affairs; George Yeo, Minister for Defence; and, Tharman
Shanmugaratnam, Minister for Education.
The Singapore Prime Minister was
in the country for a one-day visit.
His Majesty Sultan of Brunei and
the Prime Minister of Singapore then held a four- eye meeting.
During the meeting, His Majesty
and the Prime Minister of Singapore discussed bilateral issues
between the two countries.
After the audience, His Majesty
and the Prime Minister of Singapore proceeded to a luncheon hosted
by His Majesty.
Brunei and Singapore established
diplomatic relations in January 1984.
Brunei set up a government agency
in Singapore on February 1, 1975.
The agency was tasked to look
after Brunei's interest in Singapore.

This was upgraded to Commission
level on September 1, 1982 and, subsequently, to High Commission
on January 1, 1984. |
Relations between both countries are
warm and close. Both nations enjoy excellent and cordial relations and
have formal cooperation extending to many areas, including trade,
defence, health, education, technology, broadcasting and culture.
The second state visit by His Majesty
Sultan of Brunei to Singapore in February 2003 had further enhanced
the bilateral relations between the two ASEAN neighbours.
The Prime Minister of Singapore
arrived in Bandar Seri Begawan in the morning.
On arrival at the Brunei
International Airport, the Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong
was greeted by Pehin Dato Awang Haji Zakaraia, the Minister of
Communications and the Minister-In-Attendance.
Lee Hsien Loong was accompanied by
more than 20 members in his delegation.
Meanwhile, His Royal Highness Prince
Mohammed Bolkiah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, yesterday also
received in audience Mr George Yeo, the Minister for Foreign Affairs
of Singapore.
His Royal Highness received the
Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore at Istana Nurul Iman.
At the audience, His Royal Highness
and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore discussed the bilateral
relations between the two countries.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs of
Singapore was accompanying the visiting Singapore Premier, who was in
the country for a one-day visit.
