ISD Detains Counterfeit Currency
Suspects

Begawan - Two suspects alleged to be involved in possessing and
trafficking of counterfeit Brunei currency were detained Wednesday
under the Internal Security Act.
A statement issued by the Internal
Security Department (ISD) said that they are being held for the ISD to
investigate further their involvement in the case.
The two men, Sofri bin Dahali, 36,
and Hj Sarbini bin Pehin Udana Khatib Hj Junit, 53, were on discharged
not amounting to acquittal by Chief Justice Mohammad Saied on charges
linking to trafficking over half a million dollars worth of
counterfeit Brunei currency notes.
The ISD in a press statement
yesterday said:
“The Internal Security Department had
detained two men believed to be involved in possessing and the
trafficking of counterfeit Brunei currency. Both were detained on 22nd
October 2003 under the Internal Security Act (Chapter 133).
“They are Sofri bin Dahali, a
36-year-old permanent resident and Hj Sarbini bin Pehin Udana Khatib
Hj Junit, a 53-year-old Brunei citizen.
“The detention of both men will allow
the ISD to investigate further their involvement in the case.
“The Department assessed that the
acts of printing, possessing or trafficking counterfeit currency are
very serious offences and may threaten the security of the country.
“The Department will not hesitate to
take action according to the law.
“The Internal Security Department
reminds the public to be vigilant and to report any illegal activities
to the authorities which may threaten the security of the country.
