Do not Keep Tithe Money Unduly
Collectors Warned
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Amils or tithe collectors are appointed by
consent of His Majesty and not the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
They are selected based on the
trustworthiness and sense of responsibility. Two hundred and forty
four Amil or tithe collectors have been appointed to collect the
obligatory tithe for 132 areas throughout the country.
The Deputy Minister of Religious
Affairs, Pehin Dato Ustaz Haji Awang Yahya who is also the Vice
President of Brunei Islamic Religious Councils (MUIB), presented
letters of appointment to the elected Amils yesterday morning.
In his address, the Deputy Minister
said a person who is entrusted with the financial management should be
a responsible and trustworthy individual. He also reminded all the
Amils to utilize fully the knowledge they acquired from the recent
workshop on auditing.
He added the most important matter is
the issuing of Zakat payment receipt involving proper financial
management. Some Amils sometime delayed in submitting the tithe
collection to the authorised agency, he said.
More than $703,000 of tithe was
collected by the tithe collecting and distributing unit of MUIB last
year. The Amil or tithe collectors are appointed for one year term
from the first of Ramadhan 1424 Hijriah until the 30th Syaaban 1425
Hijriah. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
