Primary Schools To Have Technical
And Vocational Subjects

Begawan - The Deputy Minister of Education, Dato Paduka Haji
Suyoi said technical and vocational subjects are to become additional
lessons in primary schools.
He said the Ministry of Education
through the department of curriculum development plans to offer both
subjects in its efforts to develop and diverse its education programme
so as to meet the nation's job demands. The Deputy Minister said the
ICT, design and technology are the potential subjects that are going
to be offered.

Paduka Awang Haji Suyoi said the technical and vocational education is
created with the intention to meet the current requirement and also to
complete the country's educational system in its endeavour to prepare
for skilled manpower and at the same time to produce professionals
with skills in the field of technical and craftsman and able to meet
the country's economic development.
The Deputy Minister was speaking at
the closing of the 2nd National Technical and Vocational Skills
Competition 2003 and the presentation of awards to outstanding
students.
The winners in this contest were
tested in with in 10 skill areas of technical and vocational
education. Their projects were judged based on Asean skill
requirement, which includes quality assurance recognised by the
national and international educational institutions in the UK and
Australia.
The winners received their prizes
from the guest of honour. They will represent the country to the 5th
Asean Skills Competition, which will take place in Vietnam next year.
