Asean Transport Meeting
Yangoon
- Pehin Dato Awang Haji Zakaria the Minister of Communications,
has left for Yangon to attend the 9th Asean Transport Ministers
Meeting (ATM).
During the four-day meeting, which
begun yesterday, theAsean ministers will look into the progress of
Asean transport cooperation and development, apart from deliberating
and adopting the road map for integration of Asean competitive air
services that significantly reinforces the importance of
liberalization of air services for both passengers and cargo in Asean.
The important issue on transport
security will equally be accorded top priority concern in ensuring a
safe and secure transportation system for Asean.
Asean-China
and Asean-Japan Ministerial Meetings will follow. During the meetings,
both sides will discuss and pursue mutually beneficial cooperation in
transport sectors.
The first ATM retreat will also be
held and it will allow the Asean transport ministers for a frank
discussion and exchange of views and fresh approaches to address the
emerging and special concerns as well as to reassess existing
transport cooperation priorities.
The retreat is expected to produce
greater impetus and new directions to Asean cooperation in transport
