Runaway Worker Jailed For Overstaying

Bandar Seri Begawan - An Indonesian man, who stayed in this country illegally for 249 days with an expired employment pass, was sentenced to 4 months imprisonment yesterday.

Heru Santoso, 27, surrendered himself to the Immigration Department for the purpose of claiming his Indonesian passport, the court heard. The Immigration prosecutor, Moharefandi Hj Md Tahir, said initial investigations found that the defendant is a runaway worker.

It was revealed upon investigations where on January 27 this year, the defendant’s employer had lodged a report to the Enforcement Section stated that the defendant had left his employer since January 13 this year. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
