Indonesian Jailed For Overstaying
By Malai FadleyRizal & Rol Ezam

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 31-year-old Indonesian was sent to jail for a month yesterday after failing to pay $1,000 fine for pleading guilty to remaining unlawfully in Brunei after the expiry of his employment pass.

The court heard from Immigrations prosecutor Moharefandi Hj Md Tahir that Haryanto was arrested after enforcement personnel of the Immigrations Department, upon tip off, inspected Restaurant Metayer 7 Catering at Kampong Kuala Lurah in Limau Manis early yesterday morning.

Haryanto showed his passport to the said officers who found that an endorsement of a permit in the passport had expired since July this year. Investigations showed that his employment pass was cancelled when he worked for another restaurant and was supposed to go back to his hometown not later than July 28 this year. However, he failed to do so. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
