Good interview skills boost
opportunity for employment
By James Kon

Some of the participants from 'Bertuah Youth Camp' on their visit to
the Information Department.
There are a lot of job opportunities
available for youth in the country but most get rejected after the
first interview because of inadequate preparation. This was noted by
Awang Haji Bujang Bin Haji Masu'ut in his welcoming speech during the
'Bertuah Youth Camp' visit to the Information Department.
He also advised all fifteen visitors,
who were mostly Form 3 and Form 4 school leavers to never give up and
be willing to work hard as most employers would only hire the best
candidates.
He added that it is an advantage for
school leavers to be knowledgeable on work ethics and to dress
appropriately before an interview, as this will increase their chance
for employment.
Awang
Haji Bujang also forwarded the suggestion of enrolling in night
classes at the SOAS College to improve their English Language skill.
Lastly he hoped that the group
benefitted from the visit to the Information Department and maybe
would consider a career in journalism in the future.
After the welcoming speech, Awang Abd
Karim Bin Haji Abu Bakar, an editor from the Information Department
presented a talk on the career as a reporter.
The group then toured the Golden
Jubilee Exhibition and the Photography Section.
The visiting group were led by Haji
Nayan, Awang Shamsuri and Awang Haji Zulkifle from the Ministry of
Culture, Youth and Sports. The objective of the visit was to give an
insight on the job perspectives of a journalist under the Information
Department.
