Yesterday morning saw the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Chung Hwa Middle School in the capital and local computer company Unitek/IT Reach as a step towards achieving an E school status.

Signing on behalf of Chung Hwa Middle School was Ang Swee Chuan, the chairman of the Board of Director of Chung Hwa Middle School, while general manager of Unitek Wong Leong Yoon represented Unitek/ IT Reach.

In order to aggressively pursue the vision of being on par with global ICT infrastructure in education, the school's board of directors recently announced plans to purchase the sophisticated School Management System Software from Unitek.

According Ang Swee Chuan, this highly interactive system would assist the monitoring and administering of day-to-day school activities.

Head of IT Philip Lee saw the system as a step forward by allowing parents to check up on their children's exam results and homework.

Unitek, in collaboration with its Singapore's partner IT Reach, will see to the installation and follow-up of the system, which will be in operation early 2004.

Chung Hwa Middle School is the first secondary school in the country to have its administration computerised.
