Thai Deputy Prime Minister Meets
His Majesty At Airport

Bangkok -
The leaders of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)
have begun arriving in Bangkok, the Thai capital, for their annual
summit.
Among them was His Majesty Sultan
Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei, who arrived last night.
His Majesty arrived at the Royal Thai
Air Force terminal just before 10pm local time. Accompanying His
Majesty was His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, the Minister of
Foreign Affairs.
Greeting the monarch was the Deputy
Prime Minister of Thailand, His Excelency Mr Korn Dabaransi, and other
senior Thai government officials. Also present to greet His Majesty
were Brunei's Ambassador to Thailand, Dato Haji Mohd Yunos and other
Embassy officials.
His Majesty is in Bangkok for the
eleventh APEC economic leaders meeting which carries the theme "A
World of Differences: Partnership for the Future".
Among the top agendas that His
Majesty and his counterparts will be concentrating on are ways to
further boost trade within the Asia Pacific region, as well as
exploring other means to contain the threat of terrorism.
All the APEC economies have, to some
degree or more, suffered as a result of the recent terrorist attacks
within its region and the recent outbreak of the SARS epidemic which
have crippled many of the region's industries, most notably tourism
and investment - the staple source of income for most of the Southeast
Asian economies. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
