Librarians meet opens
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
The Congress of Southeast Asian
Librarians 2003 (CONSAL XII, 2003) is to feature a dedicated corner
especially for the children of the modern world.
The Children's Corner, sponsored by
HSBC Bank and Adinin Works & Engineering Sdn. Bhd, will display
reading books from nursery to adolescent.
More than 300 new titles from United
Kingdom, America, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Singapore had
been specially brought in by T.A. & Morgen Distributors Sdn Bhd,
including more than 100 titles from other distributors.
There will be children games and toys
as well, said Children's Corner Chairman, Siti Zaleha Hj Kaprawi.
CONSAL
XII, 2003 commences October 20 and will continue until Oct 23 at the
International Convention Centre (ICC) Berakas.
Siti
Zaleha said four bookstore distributors are taking part in the
Children's Corner activities, namely T.A. & Morgen Sdn. Bhd, Times
Publishing, ALK International Sdn Bhd and Edu-World Services Sdn. Bhd.
The corner is expected to tackle
parents' concern to bring their children to visit the exhibition and
have a great opportunity to read and buy books and toys at the
children's book outlet at the ICC lobby area.
"During the exhibition, there will be
a Workshop on Children Book Illustration with a famous illustrator and
cartoonist from Malaysia, Encik Jaafar Taib, the Managing Director of
Creative Enterprise Sdn Bhd Malaysia and the founder of the well known
'Gila-Gila' magazine.
"Some 40 students will be attending
the workshop held from October 20 -23 from 9 am -12 pm, and from 2 - 5
pm," she said.
She said it is hoped the Children's
Corner will spur the younger generation here to love and read books,
which in turn could broaden their knowledge-base and mind, as well as
enable them to interact easily with people.
