Even Housemaids and Newborn Are Eligible For Dates

Bandar Seri Begawan - This year a total of 108 tonnesof dates from the Saudi Arabia are to be distributed to Muslims in the country in conjunction with the upcoming fasting month of Ramadhan.

Dato Hj Abd Ghani Managing Director of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation who is also in the coordinating committee for the distribution of the dates clarified who are the eligible recipients.

He said all Muslims in this country including housemaids and newborn babies are eligible.

He said that His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei has contributed the dates as His Majesty's personal deed to the country's Muslim population since 1992.

Initially the purchase and distribution of the dates was managed by the Education Ministry but was taken over by the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation three years later. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
