Her Majesty Graces BISTARI Birthday Party

Bandar Seri Begawan - Her Majesty Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha has attended a function held in honour of Her Majesty's Birthday.

Yesterday's function was organised by the welfare body of the wives of government officers and women government officers (BISTARI).

The members of the organising committee led by BISTARI’s Deputy President, Datin Ha.Tah Maimoonah Haji Omar, greeted her Majesty on arrival at the Jerudong Park Polo Club.

With Her Majesty were Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna and Her Royal Highness Princess Rajah Amal Umi Kalthum Al-Islam.

Datin Hajah Maimunah deputy president BISTARI who is the chairperson of the ceremony, gave a welcoming speech touching on the development of the association.

Her Majesty then cut a birthday cake.

Her Majesty then received a “pasambah” from the organizing committee.

She is the patron of several women and welfare associations in Brunei. BISTARI's activities cover welfare projects to support the nation's role towards enhancing human resource development to help national growth.

Her Majesty also presented certificates to eleven excellent students of BISTARI.

They achieved outstanding results in their 2002 'A' and 'O' level examinations, lower secondary evaluation (PMB) and the primary certificate of education examination (PCE).

Her Majesty also presented prizes to the winners of the cookery contest open to BISTARI members only.

Her Majesty also received greetings from those present. BISTARI was established in the early eighties and at present has about 200 members.

Before leaving, Her Majesty and the royal entourage had a closer look at an exhibition displaying several varieties of food.

Women in Brunei play an equally vital role in national development.
