By Hjh Saemah Zulkefli

Bandar Seri Begawan - An Indonesian man was reported to have suffered serious injuries in a road accident around Jln Singa Menteri Mumong on Thursday night.

The incident around 9 pm resulted in the man named Supangat, aged 50 having a broken left leg and a broken right hand after a vehicle hit him when the man was crossing the road in his bicycle.

A witness who saw the incident said that the man flew into the car windscreen and then rolled down the road after the vehicle, which was traveling from Seria hit him. The vehicle skidded and eventually ended up in the big drain.

The man was treated at the Suri Seri Begawan hospital in Kuala Belait, it is reported.

Because of the incident, the police would like to remind bicycle users to have their lights switched on all the time when riding during the night. They should also ensure that their bicycles are in good condition such as having brakes that function well.

Meanwhile, a number of residents living around the area where the incident took place claimed that a number of bicycle users especially among the foreigners frequently use their bicycles without lights and proper brakes. They also ride bicycles, which are only supposed to be used by children which is dangerous especially when they are riding at night. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
