Int'l Mt Bike racing today
The Brunei Darussalam Cycling
Association, with the collaboration and support from the Tourism Unit,
is organising the Brunei International Mountain Bike Open 2003, which
is scheduled to begin today until October 19. The competition will
take place at the Bukit Shahbandar Recreation Park, and involve
participation from foreign, as well as local, teams.
So far, teams from Singapore, Sarawak
and Selangor have confirmed their participation.
The race is divided into two
categories, namely Cross Country and Downhill, opened to elite senior
and national junior cyclists. Prize money is offered to the winners in
the various classes.
The Elite X-Country champion will
receive $1,000, with the runner-up to get $800 and the third placed
winner $600. The Elite Downhill winner will get $500 in prize money,
while the runner-up will get $400 and the third-placed cyclist $300.
$500 awaits the Junior X-Country
champion, $400 for the runner-up and $300 for the third-placed winner.
The Junior Downhill champion, meanwhile, will receive $200, the
runner-up $150 and the third-placed cyclist $100.
