Bangladeshi Jailed For Overstaying

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 32-year-old Bangladeshi was jailed for three months yesterday after pleading guilty to overstaying in the Sultanate for 107 days before the Magistrates' Court.

Immigrations Prosecutor, Moharefandi Hj Md Tahir, said that Shanmuganathan Velsamy brought his passport, air ticket to India and special pass to the Immigrations Enforcement Section at the Immigrations Department as he wanted to go to India, but, however- officers there found out that his special pass had expired since June this year.

He was told to pay a $600 compound but failed. He was thus arrested and imprisoned. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
