Indonesian Woman Jailed For Impersonation

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 38-Year-Old Indonesian woman, who impersonated another Indonesian woman to re-enter Brunei after being barred, was sentenced to jail in 6 months.

Casmiroh pleaded guilty to impersonating Siti Iroh Sahar, 38, also an Indonesian national.

The court heard that the defendant was previously convicted under the Islamic Council-Act and was sentenced to 3 months and 10 days in jail.

After being released from prison, she was handed over to the Immigration Repatriation Unit and sent back to Indonesia on September 12, 2001, said Moharefandi Hj Md Tahir, the Immigration Prosecutor.

The court was told that sometime in January last year, she had submitted an application for an Indonesian passport at Jakarta Timur.

Moharefandi said before the application was made, she had changed her name in KTP (Kartu Tanda Penduduk) under the said name and also changed her birth date to March 12, 1965 instead of her real birth date of March 12, 1964.

The defendant was arrested three days ago by the Immigration Enforcement Officers at a house No. 3 in Simpang 60-22 Kampong Lambak Kanan. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
