Filipina Jailed For Stealing T-Shirts For Friends

Bandar Seri Begawan – A Filipino woman, who stole four polo T-shirts valued at $96 belonging to a textile company in Muara was sentenced to 2 weeks' imprisonment. She had worked for the company for 9 years.

"This country does not want criminals like you," said Senior Magistrate Hj Abdullah Soefri in passing sentence on Dorina C Tanap, 32.

The magistrate added that the theft was a serious offence and he said the defendant had abused the trust given to her by her employer.

The court heard that sometime between October 1 and 15 this year, the defendant, a factory worker took four polo T-shirts from packing site ‘C’ at the factory without the consent of the company.

She intended to give the T-shirts to her friends as souvenirs in the Philippines.

She took the T-shirts to the hostel and put the T shirts in her clothes cupboard in her room, said Pg Nina Jasmine Pg Hj Bahrin.

On October 15, the factory manager as well as the Women Welfare Manager and two other officers conducted a spot check in the hostel.

One of them found the stolen T-shirts hanging in the defendant's clothes cupboard.

The four T- shirts were brought to the General Manager (GM). Soon after the defendant's finished her work, she was asked to report to the GM. When asked, she confessed to stealing the T-shirts from the factory. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
