Filipina Jailed For Stealing
T-Shirts For Friends

Begawan – A Filipino woman, who stole four polo T-shirts valued
at $96 belonging to a textile company in Muara was sentenced to 2
weeks' imprisonment. She had worked for the company for 9 years.
"This country does not want criminals
like you," said Senior Magistrate Hj Abdullah Soefri in passing
sentence on Dorina C Tanap, 32.
The magistrate added that the theft
was a serious offence and he said the defendant had abused the trust
given to her by her employer.
The court heard that sometime between
October 1 and 15 this year, the defendant, a factory worker took four
polo T-shirts from packing site ‘C’ at the factory without the consent
of the company.
She intended to give the T-shirts to
her friends as souvenirs in the Philippines.
She took the T-shirts to the hostel
and put the T shirts in her clothes cupboard in her room, said Pg Nina
Jasmine Pg Hj Bahrin.
On October 15, the factory manager as
well as the Women Welfare Manager and two other officers conducted a
spot check in the hostel.
One of them found the stolen T-shirts
hanging in the defendant's clothes cupboard.
The four T- shirts were brought to
the General Manager (GM). Soon after the defendant's finished her
work, she was asked to report to the GM. When asked, she confessed to
stealing the T-shirts from the factory.
