His Majesty Criticizes Israel’s
Attack On Syria

Putrajaya
– His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah said that the
Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) would like to see justice
be given to their brothers in Palestine and His Majesty also
criticized Israel's recent attack on the sovereign territory of Syria.
His Majesty was addressing the
general assembly of the 10th Session of the Islamic Summit Conference
of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference held in Malaysia
yesterday.
His Majesty commended on the theme
adopted for the summit and believed that it would inspire positive
thinking at a time when many Muslims may be questioning their place in
this world.
His Majesty said that these feelings
go far beyond traditional domestic concerns and relations with one's
immediate neighbour.
His Majesty acknowledged that the OIC
is also facing the same difficulties as that of other cultures and
societies.
His Majesty also spoke on the fate of
the Palestinian people and criticised Israel’s recent attack on Syria.
Upon arrival at the Putrajaya
Convention Centre, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, the Right
Honourable Dato Seri Dr Mahathir Mohammad and Datin Seri Dr Siti
welcomed His Majesty.
The ceremony began with the
recitation of verses from the Holy Quran and a Doa.
Accompanying His Majesty was His
Royal Highness Prince Mohammed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of
Brunei.
Also present was the Minister of
Industry and Primary Resources, Pehin Dato Awang Haji Abdul Rahman.
His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Hamad Bin
Khalifa Al-Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar and Chairman of the 9th
Islamic Summit, officially opened the 10th Session of the Islamic
Summit Conference.
This was followed by the election of
the Prime Minister of Malaysia, the Right Honourable Dato Seri Dr
Mahathir Mohammad as Chairman of the 10th Session of the Islamic
Summit Conference.
The Malaysian Premier also delivered
a statement at the opening ceremony.
The ceremony continued with
statements from His Majesty King Mohammad the Sixth of Morocco,
Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee and Chairman of the Group 77+China,
representative of the African Group, the Arab Group.
Also delivering statements were
Secretary General OIC, Dr Abdelouahed Belkerzi, the Deputy Prime
Minister of Malaysia, the Honourable Dato Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi,
as Chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Secretary General of
Arab Leauge, Mr Amr Moussa, and President of the African Union, Mr
Alpha Omar Konare.
In the afternoon, His Majesty
together with other OIC leaders attended an official luncheon hosted
by the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
