DST will be carrying out a system
maintenance to enhance the quality of its prepaid Easi mobile phone
service ahead of the expected surge in the use of Easi in the festive
season of Ramadhan and Hari Raya, said Pg HMN Ariffin Pg Omar, Head of
the Easi Unit of DSTCom.
At a press conference at the DST
Branch at Yayasan Shopping Complex yesterday, he also said DST had
taken the appropriate line of action to curb the Easi service
downtime.
Also present at the press conference
was Pg Haji Zahari, DST Corporate Communication Manager.
Asked about the disruption to the
Easi service a few weeks ago, Pg HMN Ariffin said that in view of the
success of the $20 and $40 Easi recharge cards, there had been a surge
in Easi use, which had caused the disruption.
He said that the system maintenance
was be part of DST Group's solution to improve the Easi performance
and the expected increase in traffic of Easi service in the coming
festive month of Ramadhan and Hari Raya. He said that the two system
maintenance exercises will be carried out today (Friday) from 2 am to
4 am and on October 22 from 12 am to 6 am, and as a result there might
be a disruption in the system.
The exercises will be conducted in
the early hours of the morning when the Easi traffic is low to avoid
disrupting people's daily activities.
In another effort to enhance the
quality of Easi service, DST also announced the implementation of
"Intelligent Network" as part of its Evolution GPRS/EDGE Project which
is expected to be launched early 2004 that will also further stablise
the GSM network.
He added that on the eve of the
fasting and Hari Raya season, DST is requesting patience and
cooperation from its customers in minimising the repeated unsuccessful
call attempts as this would aggravate the already congested line.
He said that the priority of the DST
Group is to continuously provide the best quality service as expected
by the public and DST will try to accelerate this exercise as soon as
possible.
