Two Children Survive After Being
Flung Out Of Burning House
By Hj Minor Absah

Bandar Seri
Begawan - Two children – a boy and his sister - escaped
unscathed after they were “thrown out” by their parents from the upper
floor of a burning double-storey house at No.45, Kg. Serasa, Muara on
Wednesday night.
One of the occupants of the house,
Dyg Rashidah Jaini, 33, said the flames engulfed the staircase,
forcing the family of nine to jump out from the top floor to save
themselves.
Dyg
Rashidah, who rented the ground floor of the house, said that the
other tenants comprising foreign workers, helped to catch the children
aged five and two years old.
The two are the son and daughter of
the houseowner, Awg Mohamad Hashim, 38. However, their mother, Dyg
Zakiah Awg Tengah sustained minor leg injuries.
Dyg
Rashidah said that the blaze spread rapidly, preventing them from
saving their belongings. They noticed the fire when a loud bang was
heard at the upper floor, which prompted the occupants to flee the
house.
“While we were outside, we saw the
flames had engulfed the staircase,” she said.
Twenty firefighters from the Muara
Fire Station rushed to the scene in two fire engines and put out the
blaze in five minutes after receiving a distress call at around
11.52am.
The amount of loss and cause of fire
are still being investigated. -- Courtesy of
