Jail For ‘Unrepentant’ Local Thief
By Malai FadleyRizal
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A 32-year-old local who pleaded guilty to stealing in
the Magistrates’ Court last week was jailed for eighteen months
yesterday, backdated to the day he was first remanded on Thursday.
Prior to that, Abdul Manaf Hj Besar,
during the course of mitigations, pleaded for the court’s utmost
leniency. However, he was told by the court that he had three previous
convictions in the early 1990s and had shown no remorse now.
DPP
Syed Azmal told Senior Magistrate Hj Abdullah Soefri yesterday that
the defendant had entered a house at No C2 in Jalan SOAS, Berakas Camp
belonging to Jafar Ali Hj Othman from the back and stole four golf
clubs, two Army Captain epaulettes, a scooter key, a gold ring, a
ring, a glove, a bag and three golf balls in December last year.
He brought the stolen items in his
car and went to a neighbouring house when the occupant arrived and
blocked the defendant’s car.
Soon after, Jafar came and they both
had asked what the defendant was doing.
Jafar
peeked into the car and saw his stuff, and some more in the car boot.
The defendant was then handed over to
the Military Police whom had detained Abdul Manaf until the police
came to arrest him. --
