Amulet Charms Its Way To Muslims’
Heart

Bandar Seri
Begawan – More Muslims are caught using amulets and other lucky
charms as this illegal practice continues to soar towards the end of
this year.
The Brunei Islamic Centre reported
that it had detected 50 cases involving the illegal use of amulets and
lucky charms like invulnerability or invincible charm (pendinding),
love potion (minyak pengasih), penunduk and love charm (pemikat sukam).
These items were confiscated from
users through the Immigration Post, including the Brunei International
Airport’s arrival hall, Sg Tujoh Immigration Post and through the post
offices.
Since January until August this year,
the Censorship and Exhibition Unit has inspected about 120 objects. Of
this, 78 were confiscated while another 124 objects were held upon
inspection at the Immigration Post. The entry of 287 magazines and
newspapers was not also allowed.
In an exclusive interview, Dayang
Hajjah Rashidah Haji Mohammad Hanifah, head of Censorship and
Exhibition Department, said amulets and other lucky charms said to be
able to give invincibility to the users must not be used.
“It is better for the user to
practice the holy words of the Quran instead of believing that the
amulet is giving him power or benefits,” she said.
She was astonished to see that
majority of the users are Muslims. “Muslims should have the basic
understanding of Islam. Muslims should know the Islamic law and the
effect of using these items which can lead the user to become ‘syirik’
or misguided towards the teaching of Islam,” she added.
Dayang
Hajjah Rashidah continues to advice Muslims in Brunei not to be fooled
by the supposed power of the amulets and other lucky charms which can
cause misguidance toward the teachings of Islam and belief to Allah.
“These illegal practice is increasing
by the end of this year,” she concluded. -- Courtesy of
