Chung Ching visits the Golden
Chick
By James Kon

Students getting some firsthand experience.
Two buses full of people from Chung
Ching Middle School in Seria yesterday morning visited the Golden
Chick.
Five teachers and sixty-six students
in total had a closer look at chicken processing in the abattoir.
Upon arrival, they were greeted by
Production Executive Ak Hj Mohd Zukarnean and Religious Officer Hj
Tahir.
The group was taken on a tour of the
premises after a brief presentation on its history and the operational
side.
The pupils were led by Madam Rebecca
Nuneza and Madam Lew.
They were given an opportunity to
witness firsthand the slaughter of chicken in progress as well as how
it is packed and transported out of the plant.
The students also learned about
quality assurance and safety aspects, namely the implementation of
Hazard Critical Control Point Programme.
The management staff explained that
it is critical today for hygiene control as well as Good Manufacturing
Practices or GMP.
"HACCP is the international standard
for food processing plants, especially in the poultry industry.
Bacteria count and temperature are
kept at the set limit.
"Strict monitoring and constant
supervision are required to meet the HACCP standards," said Ak Hj Mohd
Zukarnean.
Meanwhile, Hj Tahir said that strict
monitoring of methods for Halal meat and processing are ensured by
Quality Assurance Team, which ensures certain religious doctrine is
followed to the letter.
Madam Rebecca Nuneza said that the
main objective of the trip was to provide a chance for students to
venture into different businesses in the future.
The visit also served to enrich their
knowledge of the industry.
