Developing both the mind and soul of the young and to educate youths to respect themselves and towards others less fortunate were among the objectives of yesterday's visit to Pusat Ehsan Centre by students and teachers of Alif Nursery and Primary School, Kg Tungku Branch.

Soon after their arrival at the centre, the school's Head Teacher Cikgu Zurina binti Md Hashim and other school children were greeted by the Manager of Pusat Ehsan Centre, Major (R) Pg Hj Tajuddin bin Hj Mohd Yassin.

The centre's manager was very pleased over the large turnout and hopes that the visiting students would gain enormously from it. He also mentioned that his centre has introduced a pilot project called 'Early Intervention Programme' (EIP) which began in March earlier this year.

The main aim of the project is to maximise the potential of each child with special needs or multiple disabilities. At present, there are two groups of children aged 3-5 years of age with possible or definite cerebral palsy, Down's Syndrome or have general developmental delay.

The objectives of the programme are to prepare the children for entry to mainstream educational institution, and also to prove that EIP is beneficial to a child's development especially to a child with multiple disabilities.

After the briefing, the students were divided into two groups. Each group had the opportunity to have a closer look at the facilities available at the centre.
