Joint operation to monitor border
crossings in Lumapas
By CT Hj Mahmod

Enforcement officers from Brunei's Land and Transport Department
inspecting a vehicle for valid road tax.
A team of law enforcement agencies
from the Royal Brunei Police Force, Customs and Excise Department,
Immigration Department and Land and Transport joined forces late
yesterday afternoon to conduct checks on human and vehicle traffic at
the border separating Kg. Lumapas and Kg. Pandam in Malaysia.
The inspection was of security
concern, said a law enforcement officer, with checks for valid travel
documents and vehicles with expired road tax, as well as attempts to
smuggle illegal goods into Brunei.
However, the main concern was the
flow of human traffic from the neighbouring country into Brunei
without carrying proper travelling documents, as it is only a walking
distance and people from Limbang could easily saunter across the
border.
And yesterday, two female and one
male were detained for not possessing valid travel documents.
Heading the team during the
inspection routine was the OCS of Limau Manis Police Station, and the
team involved; 20 personnel both from the Sengkurong and Limau Manis
Police Stations; 5 from Customs and Excise Department; 14 from
Immigration Department and 5 from Land and Transport.
