Brunei-US joint defence works
committee meeting

Officials at the Fifth Joint Defence Working Committee meeting between
Brunei Darussalam and the United States at Empire yesterday.
The Fifth Joint Defence Working Com-mittee
meeting between Brunei Darussalam and the United States was held
yesterday at the Empire Hotel and Country Club.
The meeting was hosted by Brunei's
Ministry of Defence.
It was officially opened by Pehin
Datu Singamanteri Colonel (L) Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin
Haji Umar, Permanent Secretary (Policy and Administration) of the
Ministry of Defence, Brunei Darussalam and US Ambassador Mr Gene Burl
Christy.
Ccoperation
in defence, including matters pertaining to bilateral exercise and
training, logistics cooperation and an exchange of views on shared
defence and security matters, particularly in relation to regional
security development and terrorism, were discussed in the meeting
between Brunei and the United States.
The Brunei delegation at the meeting
comprised of senior officials from the Ministry of Defence led by
Awang Haji Majid bin Mangarshah, Director of Politics and Organisation
while the US delegation comprised of nine officials led by Colonel
Mark Stank of US Air Force, Chief of Southeast Asia Policy Division,
United States Pacific Command J52.
The meeting was a follow-up of the
agreement between the Government of His Majesty and the United States
on cooper-ation pertaining to defence affairs and equipment that was
signed on November 29, 1994.
The meeting was also to enhance
bilateral relations between the two countries.
