Couple To Compensate Maid

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 27-year-old man and a 28 year-old woman who were charged with voluntarily causing hurt to their Indonesian maid, were compounded from the charge yesterday after both agreed to pay a $5,000 compensation, outstanding wages and air-ticket back to Jakarta, to their amah yesterday.

The defendants, Mohd Taip Hj Lamat and Noraini Hj Ismail, agreed to the compensations in front of their maid, Damirah Vnarjei, in the compromise heard before Magistrate Faisal bin Pehin Hj Keiflie.

Both were facing a charge of causing hurt to the Indonesian woman on several occasions between August to December 18, 2001 at a flat in Jalan Atas Bukit, Berakas Camp. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
