Young Women Focused In Regional
Workshop
By Azlan Othman
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The regional workshop on social issues affecting
young women not only addressed women’s issues but also focussed on the
interaction between men and women and reactions to situations they
consequently faced.
The valuable information of the
regional workshop gave vital information that could be used as a basis
for each participant to explore further what needs to be improved and
strengthened to alleviate the status of young women in this region.
Especially needs of the disadvantaged groups should be focused.
Awg
Hj Jemat Hj Ampal, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture,
Youth and Sports said this at the closing ceremony of the regional
workshop yesterday on social issues affecting young women at the
Orchid Garden Hotel.
Admittedly, we are in a region strong
in its traditions and culture. There are many strong aspects of
culture and tradition that had contributed to the well being and
maintenance of society, he said.
At the same time, there are also
changes brought about by modernisation, interdependence and now
globalisation affecting our culture and traditions that bring many
good things as well as bad influences.
Youth development workers need to be
aware that gender is a social phenomenon, which can be addressed
through collective action.
Young people have a special role to
play in collective pursuit in a world where women and men are given
opportunities to participate in the development of their nations.
He also expressed his hope that the
workshop will help bring about the many positive changes that will
contribute towards the betterment of every member of society,
including young women.
Hj
Jemat added the workshop, and many others will help to bring about the
many positive changes that will contribute towards the betterment of
every member of society, including young women.
We must also acknowledge the role and
contributions made by the Commonwealth Secretariat under the
Commonwealth Youth Programme towards this noble objective, he added.
The chief guest also highlighted the
ceremony with the presentation of certificates to the participants.
