Bandar Seri Begawan – The Maktab Omar Ali Saifuddien welcomed 46 history teachers for the presentation of certificates at the History Workshop, at the SOAS College from March 13 to September 25, 2003. The guest of honour was Cikgu Apsah binte Hj Abd Majid, Director of Schools, Ministry of Education.

Cikgu Apsah in her speech thanked the organiser of the workshop, Mrs Quah Teo Siew King, for her dedication and commitment to making the workshop a success. She added that “the teaching and learning process in all the schools in Brunei should continuously be upgraded if we want to achieve greater effectiveness in the classrooms. To enhance the professional development of teachers, the Department of Schools continues to encourage teachers to further enrich their skills in order to adapt to the challenged of our ever changing environment.”

Her advice to all participants was to aim high in their profession and ensure excellence in the classroom and in doing so success would follow. Teachers should possess the will and be passionate about history, she said, adding that teachers should also be convincing and show commitment in adopting new ideas when teaching history in order to achieve good results in the subject.

The highlight of the function was the launching of the CD-ROM about Historical matters for Secondary 1 to 4. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
