By Azlan Othman
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Cat burglars on the prowl have broken into a computer
shop in Gadong in the early hours of Saturday morning taking with them
a sizeable booty of some of the latest model mobile phones and
notebook computers.
Besides 36 brand new expensive mobile
phones and half a dozen laptops worth several thousands of dollars,
the alleged thieves have also stolen over $2000 in cash and three
expensive diamond rings during the break-in.
The computer shop is located in the
bustling Gadong commercial area. According to informed sources, the
break-in is said to have taken place early Saturday morning.
The manager of the shop, speaking on
condition of anonymity said the alleged thieves might have entered the
shop, by cutting the grill located behind the shop using a chain saw.
Initially, the intruder may have
entered the premises through a loose steel gate, which was in a faulty
state. This was the passageway for the staff to go upstairs, he
explained.
"We noticed the incident Saturday
morning at a time when we were about to commence work around 9am. Out
of the five notebooks stolen, three were brand new, while two belonged
to customers who had left them for repair." he added.
The brand new 36 mobile phones were
worth over $16,000. Some of these models were priced well over $1000
each he added.
Speaking on the disappearance of the
$2,000 cash and three diamond rings, which were inside another room,
he said the thieves might have entered the room by making a hole on
the wall to open-up the door.
Sources at the central police station
confirmed receiving a report on the break-in and said they are
investigating the case. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
