Diners at the Pantai Restaurant at
the Empire Hotel on Friday night were treated to a magnificent
performance by a traditional cultural dance troupe of five dancers
showing several steps from the ethnic tribes of Sarawak.
The performances included the Iban
Ngajat displaying the strength of the Iban warriors who gracefully
dances to the rhythms of the gongs.
A Bidayuh dance, "Rejang Be'uh," is a
dance usually performed after the harvest season as a form of
entertainment for guests at the longhouse. This was performed in
unison by dancers imitating the movements of eagles flapping their
wings in flight.
The Sarawak performance was held in
association with The Malaysian High Commission in Brunei, Tourism
Malaysia and Sarawak Tourism Board.
