Moot court in UBD at last
By M K Anwar
Universiti
Brunei Darussalam will be holding a moot court (or 'mock court') this
Wednesday (Oct 15) in the Senate Room of the Chancellor Hall. Chief
guest will be UBD Vice Chancellor, Dr Haji Ismail Duraman.
Moot court is a programme undertaken
by students taking law in most countries, a form of practical training
for law students who will be handling cases in court when they
completed their studies.
In Brunei, a moot court program is
not held due to the lack of law programs offered by the university.
Due to the fact that mooting can
impart invaluable skills, especially to those taking the Diploma in
Judiciary and Syariah Law (Dip.ILP), it is important that such skills
be sharpened in a moot court.
With the programme, students are
exposed to the real situation by arguing imaginary cases, like how
cases are argued in real life court.
Besides the main objectives for
Dip.ILP students, moot court provides wider exposure, to heighten
student awareness and interest on law matters and its importance in
maintaining peace and harmony in society.
