E-Cards For Overseas Filipino
Workers
By Tony Alabastro
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Issuance of E-Cards to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW)
is extended for another two months until Nov. 30, the Philippine
Embassy announced.
The E-Card is a permanent
identification card for OFWs and to avail of benefits and services
from the Overseas Workers and Welfare Administration (OWWA).
It is a discount card in selected
outlets in the Philippines, during specific periods, like during the
holiday seasons. It is issued free to all OWWA members.
The E-Cards can be activated as an
ATM card, for free and without the required minimum deposit, said
Labour Attache Carmelina F. Velasquez.
She said Vicente Lopez, senior
manager of Equitable PCI Bank, is in the country for two months to
assist OFWs for this purpose.
OFWs
in Brunei are encouraged to be OWWA members and secure their E-Cards
at the Philippine Embassy while the card printing machine is still
there, said Welfare Officer Rosario S. Ilo.
It is more convenient for members to
get their E-Cards at the embassy, she said.
The E-Cards were issued during the
Overseas Absentee Voting Registration, which ended last Sept. 30.
Filipino workers can contact the
POLO-OWWA Sections of the Philippine Embassy at 223-6981 and 223-7053.
