Programmes to benefit Filipino
workers in full swing, says Embassy

The series of livelihood and skills
upgrading programmes for the benefit of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs)
in Brunei Darussalam are now in full swing at the Filipino Workers
Resource Centre in Jalan Madewa.
This was announced in a press
statement from the Philippine Embassy in Brunei.
It stated that since the launching of
the project last August 2003, more than 329 Filipino workers have
completed lessons in cooking and silk screen-printing.
The Overseas Workers Welfare
Administration (OWWA) of the Philippine Overseas Labour Office (POLO),
in cooperation with various Filipino organisations and groups, has
conducted continuos livelihood training lessons and seminars.
They aim to give OFWs in the
Sultanate upgraded knowledge, skills and attitudes to improve their
work competencies as well as to prepare them for their eventual return
to the Philippines.
The Philippine Institute of Public
Accountants (PICPA) last October 4 started the Basic Computer Courses
for more than thirty-five workers, providing them basic computer
knowledge on Basic Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel and Internet Usage.
