Fined For Illegal Entry
By Malai FadleyRizal
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A Filipino woman was fined $1,500 or two months' jail
in default after she pleaded guilty to entering Brunei illegally
before the Magistrates' Court yesterday.
Naysa
Cantones Villanueva, 26, was charged with entering Brunei from Limbang
without producing her passport before Immigration officers for arrival
clearance at the Kuala Lurah Checkpoint.
Immigration prosecutor Moharefandi Hj
Md Tahir told the court that Naysa wanted to go to Limbang on
September 27 and handed over her passport to Immigration officers for
departure clearance at the Checkpoint, where personnel found out that
there was a departure mark inscribed in it dated September 18, 2003
but there was no arrival mark imprinted in her passport after the said
departure date.
She was given a special pass to
appear at the enforcement division of the Immigrations Department.
She attended the meeting and
investigations revealed that she first arrived here from Labuan as a
tourist in January this year.
The Prosecutor further added that the
defendant had since travelled frequently to neighbouring Limbang so
she could extend her stay here.
Naysa
admitted to the court that she did not present her passport for
arrival clearance on the said date.
