Breast Cancer Cases Rising In
Brunei
Bandar Seri
Begawan – Brunei has not escaped from the rising trend of
breast cancer amongst women.
Over the years, the number has
steadily increased especially among young women in their 30s and 40s.
Last year, the number of women
diagnosed in hospital has almost doubled over the yearly number for
the past five years.
Dr Haji Syafiq Abdullah, Specialist
Oncologist of the RIPAS Hospital, said unfortunately over two-thirds
of the breast cancer cases presented rather late due to fear and
shame.
He said that they also received a
local male patient who suffers breast cancer.
Dr. Haji Shafiq strongly encouraged
women to empower their own health and come forward for early check-up
as treatment for breast cancer is costly.
In conjunction with the Breast Cancer
Awareness Month, the Brunei Darussalam Women's Council yesterday
contributed several educational aid equipments to the Brunei Breast
Cancer Support Group.
