Understanding breast cancer better

'Breast Cancer Awareness Month'.
The 'Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October 2003' was officially launched yesterday by Director General of
Health Services Datin Paduka Dr Hjh Intan Binti Haji Mohd Salleh, who
was present as guest of honour.

the exhibition at the RIPAS hospital's outpatient lobby
During a speech by Datin Paduka Hjh
Rokiah Binti Haji Zakiah, Co-Chairperson of the Brunei Breast Cancer
Support Group, it was said that throughout the world, October is
recognised as the 'International Breast Cancer Awareness Month,' and
that the pink ribbon symbolises respect and commitment to fighting the
disease, in addition to showing support to sufferers.
She added that the Brunei Breast
Cancer Support Group was established on September 16, 2001, with aims
of providing support to both the sufferers and their family through
counselling, and educating them on the disease.
In doing so, they could help patient
to maximise their rate of recovery through cosmetic, physical as well
as psychology treatment.
The support group promotes and
educates the public on health care and breast cancer, which is one of
the most deadly diseases that could strike women.
Later, Datin Paduka Hjh Rokiah
thanked both the 'Majlis Wanita Negara Brunei Darussalam' for their
contribution of educational materials, and the guest of honour for her
presence.
Themed 'Let's Fight Breast Cancer
Together,' the exhibition was jointly-organised by the Brunei Breast
Cancer Support Group and the Ministry of Health.
To bring about awareness and to
educate the public about the disease, a public forum on 'Fighting
Breast Cancer in Brunei' will be held at the International Convention
Centre, Berakas, at 8.30 am today.
The forum will include talks
delivered by specialists from RIPAS hospital, who will touch on topics
like 'Oncology Management in Breast Cancer,' 'Women and Breasts' as
well as 'Breast Cancer - The role of Well Women Clinic.'
