10 students heading to Jakarta to
make Brunei proud

The ten students who will be representing Brunei in the Asean Primary
School Mathematics and Science Olympiad and the 4th Asean Student
Exchange Programme.

Ministry of Education presents the national flag to the students.
Ten students will be representing
Brunei to participate in two different programmes in Jakarta,
Indonesia this month.
The Asean Primary School Mathematics
and Science Olympiad, which is to be held from October 17 to 23, has
for the first time invited Brunei to send four representatives.
The students are Muhammad Nafi bin
Alidi from PDG Hj Mohd Salleh Primary School, Siti Nur-Diyana Hj Mohd
Alipah of PDS School, Tiah Teck Hean from Chung Hwa School, BSB and
Muhd Azim Hj Mohd Daud of St George's School.
The competition hopes to develop
students' talent, interest, intellectual ability and skills in Science
and Mathematics.
"Smart, Skilled and Creative in a
Joyful Competition for Excellence" is the theme for this year and
participants will be involved in tests including theoretical and
experimental questions based on Asean primary school curriculum.
Meanwhile, another six students will
also be making the country proud as they participate in the 4th Asean
Student Exchange Programme. Bahit bin Hamid, Abdul Alaiff bin Abd
Rahman, Muhd Zul-Azri Hj Rajid, Dk Noorazlina Pg Maidi, Aidah Hj
Suleiman and Zalinah bte Mohd Ibrahim all from various secondary
schools throughout the nation have been selected to attend the 12-day
exchange programme. The theme is "Cross Culture for Asean Spirit and
Solidarity".
The programme aims to cultivate
understanding and cooperation among Asean students in educational,
social and cultural areas.
One of the participants, Dk
Noorazlina Pg Maidi, a Lower 6th student from Sayyidina Ali Secondary
School currently studying Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Maths and GP
expressed her gratitude at being given such an opportunity to
represent Brunei to such a distinguished programme.
She will be giving a presentation on
"Cross Culture for Asean Spirit and Solidarity". Out of 24 candidates,
Dk Noorazlina succeeded in making it to the top six to attend the
programme.
Dr Hj Latif Hj Ibrahim, the Acting
Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education was also
present to wish the students luck in their endeavours.
