Call to service customers with a smile
By Saemah Zulkefli

Minister of Communications, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Awang Hj Zakaria Hj Sulaiman officially launches the new post office in Lumut.

The message relayed at the World Postal Federation 2003 highlighted on competition and globalisation in the private sectors. Efforts should be made by private businesses to find ways to effectively compete in the global environment.

Competition also exists among postal administrations and this should be viewed in a positive outlook, as this can help to bring about smarter and better services.

It is also important to give top priority to fulfill customers' needs and provide friendly services with a smile in order to achieve the objective of a 'Universal Postal Service' as outlined by the World Postal Association.

The Minister of Communications, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Awang Hj Zakaria Hj Sulaiman said this during the official opening of the Lumut Post Office in conjunction with World Postal Day yesterday.

The launching ceremony also saw a few events such as the Best Counter Clerk 2003 award, the signing ceremony for ATM Space Rental between Postal Services Department and Islamic Development Bank of Brunei and Baiduri Bank, as well as the preview of the Lumut Post Office and a Mechanisation Project video clip.

Other activities held included blood donation, motivation workshop certificate presentation, sports fest and Asean stamp album launch.

The Best Counter Clerk 2003 award was given to Dyg T.V.S Mani binti Hj Tudin from the Limau Manis Post Office. She received $1,500 in cash and a trophy presented by the guest of honour.

Construction of the $640,000 Lumut Post Office began on December 10, 2002 and was completed on July 31 this year.
