Belait Hawkers Told To Get
Business Licences

Kuala Belait –
Unlicensed hawkers have been told to get their licences to enable them
to carry out their business.
The licence is not only for full time
business but also for the small part-timers.
Meanwhile, hawkers, who open their
business at illegal market at Kampong Baru in Seria, are asked to do
their businesses at the at the Seria new wet market. But they should
first get the official procedure.
The illegal open market at Kampong
Baru has been demolished at the end of last month.
The market is very popular among
residents in Seria because the goods and products are cheaper compared
to other places. The market, which is locally known as 'tamu iban',
also sells fresh food, especially vegetables and fish. It has been in
operation since early 80s and is opened only on Monday and Wednesday.
Several attempts to close the open
market have failed because of stiff resistance from the vendors.
The Belait District Office and
Municipal Department made the move to demolish the market to ensure
the cleanliness of the area.
The existence of the illegal open
market was not only an eyesore but it also affected the vendors at the
new market.
Operators at the market had
complained that they received poor response from the public. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
