His Majesty Sees Bali Summit A Way
To Move Forward


Bali, Indonesia
– His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah said the Asean
Summit in Bali is another opportunity for the leaders to forge the way
forward for Asean as it faces new challenges to fight against global
terrorism and outbreaks like the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
His Majesty Sultan of Brunei made the
titah in a keynote address on ‘Synergy in Asean Diversity’ at the
Asean Business and Investment Summit (ASEAN-BIS) yesterday.
The Brunei Ruler was greeted on
arrival at the Conference Hall by Mr Tanri Abeng, Chairman of the
organising committee of the ASEAN-BIS.
In his titah, the Sultan said that
Asean leaders acknowledged the important role the private sector plays
in the competitiveness and dynamism of the region.
His Majesty also highlighted Asean’s
efforts toward the goal of regional economic integration, bringing
together all ten member countries into a single economic pattern.
The Monarch stressed on the need for
all Asean countries and the business community to have political will
to reach the goal of integration.
He believed that Asean is committed
and determined to attain success.
His Majesty Sultan of Brunei later
viewed a showcase on investments opportunities and tourism in Brunei.
Brunei was one of Asean member
countries participating in the exhibition, the first of its kind being
held, was officially launched by Indonesia’s President, Her Excellency
Megawati Sukarnoputri.
Accompanying His MaJesty to the
ASEAN-BIS were His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Brunei’s
Foreign Affairs Minister, and Pehin Dato Awang Haji Abdul Rahman,
