Hold and pull competition starts

Tug-of-war competitors

Some 12 teams battle the rope in the five-day tug of war competition in conjunction to the 33rd anniversary of the changing of name from Bandar Brunei to Bandar Seri Begawan. The first leg started on Saturday night at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien.

The teams that gave the best hold and pull of the rope to win the first round were Syarikat Seribu, Waqi Senderian Berhad "B", Jabatan Bandaran, Triple Star, The Prime Minister Deparmtent and Juredco Enterprice.

Teams which will come back for some retributions tonight at the Taman are Million Goldsmith "B", Pasar Malam Gadong, Waqi Sdn Bhd "A", HSBC bank, SCB bank and also Million Goldsmith "A".

All teams will have a few more matches, which continue tonight and on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. The team which will capture or collect the most points by winning the matches will be crowned as this year champion. Team will collect up to four points per match.

Among those in the large crowd who gathered Saturday night to give support to the competing teams was the guest of honour, Dato Paduka Awang Hj Md Yussof b. Hj Md Hassan, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
