S Korea At Bali Summit
Bandar Seri
Begawan – Brunei and South Korea will sign a bilateral trade
agreement.
When leaders of ten Asean countries
converge at the 9th Summit on the Indonesian island of Bali starting
on Tuesday.
During the two-day summit, a number
of important issues pertaining to the region's security, political and
economic integrations will be discussed.
The theme of this year's summit is
"Towards Asean security and economic community."
The essence of the summit will be
that of enhancing regional capabilities in confronting acute political
and security problems.
High on the agenda will be efforts in
building up a wider cooperation among member countries in combating
terrorism and setting up mechanisms for conflict prevention and
resolution.
The summit will also be focusing on
the deepening of economic relationship with three of Asean's East Asia
dialogue partners: China, Japan and South Korea and Asean with India.
The summit is expected to produce a
major new agreement known as "Bali Concord 2" which will pave the way
for the creation of an Asean security and economic community.
At this year's Asean meeting, a
business and investment summit will be held for the very first time,
in which governments of the Asean countries will interact with the
region's private sectors.
The whole focus of the summit is to
create an environment conducive to business transactions and to foster
strong business to business and business to government relationships.
At the meeting, Asean leaders are
expected to give their keynote address on the region's economic
potential and future.
As far as security of the delegates
are concerned, the Indonesian government is taking no chance and
taking all necessary steps in ensuring the safety of all the guests.
With images of the last October's
bombing which had killed more than 200 people, the possible threats of
terrorism are still looming high, this measure is well expected.
Security is tightened at all entry
points to the meeting areas and at the hotels where the delegates are
staying.
