Students at the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah Nursing College attended a talk held at their college premises which was organised by the Universiti Brunei Darussalam, yesterday.

Five spokespersons were at the presentation including Dr. Tahira bte Haji Muhammad Shariff, Dayang Mutiara bte Hj Md Jais, Hajah Dayang bte Hj Awang Damit, Awang Hj Si-Ramlee bin Haji Serudin and Awang Haji Adanan bin Haji Puteh. Their topics were Introduction about Services, Facilities and UBD library membership, JALINAN, and UBD website and database demonstration.

The students had the opportunity to ask questions and view a mini exhibition on products, library publishing sales and souvenirs held at the premises.

Dr. Tahira spoke briefly on the background of Universiti Brunei Darussalam, explaining that it began in 1985. It has 500,000 items and 700 journal collections. The Library building is divided into 10 functional areas such as office of the chief librarian, lending, general references, serials, Bruneiana and special collections, customer services, acquisitions, cataloguing, research and development and systems.

One of the spokesperson also talked about the Joint Academic Library Network (JALINAN) which hopes to achieve excellence in the provision of information for Brunei Darussalam's academic community. Among the objectives been explained were to establish effective academic support services for academic institutions in Brunei Darussalam, to maximise the usage of information available in libraries and to reduce cost and dependencies to institutions overseas for information that can be obtained in Brunei Darussalam.
