‘Unremorseful’ Drug Abuser Jailed Four Years
By Malai FadleyRizal

Bandar Seri Begawan - A local drug abuser was jailed for four years yesterday after pleading guilty to consuming ‘Syabu’ before the Magistrates’ Court.

NCB Prosecutor told the court that on January 2, 2002, Kifli bin Tuah’s urine sample tested positive for Methylamphetamine, a Class A controlled drug, while he was undergoing the Narcotics Control Bureau Supervision Programme.

While reporting himself to the NCB office in Kg Tungku on March 20, 2002, he was detained by a Senior Narcotics Officer .

The defendant admitted to consuming the said drug during investigations.

Prior to that, he was jailed for three years for consumption of a controlled drug and was released in 2001.

Yesterday, Kifli begged before the court for leniency and asked to be imposed a fine or released on a bond for good behaviour.

However, Senior Magistrate Hj Abdullah Soefri said in his judgement that the defendant had shown no remorse even after having served imprisonment and undergoing supervision.

He said that Kifli was not fit to be imposed just with a fine or released on the said condition when looking at his previous records of convictions.

The court heard that Kifli has three previous convictions of consuming controlled drugs. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
