Quick Police Action Nabs Two
Suspects
By Malai Hassan Othman
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Royal Brunei Police Force have made quick headway
on the latest case of a break-in which happened at Kg Jaya Setia Bakti
in Berakas on Wednesday morning, with the detention of two suspects
yesterday.
A shop was allegedly broken into and
a 70-year-old man was said to have suffered minor injuries in the
incident. Quick action led to yesterday’s detention of two locals for
questioning, police said.
The two are now being interviewed and
investigations are progressing steadily, stated the police.
On the national front, police are now
hot on the heels of other criminals who are believed to be behind a
spate of robberies and burglaries.
“It is a fact that there is an
increase in crimes against property in the country during the first
six months of this year compared to the same period last year. And we
are intensifying our investigations to nab these culprits,” a police
officer said, commenting on a Bulletin report, ‘Burglars strike again
in capital’.
But a recent report stating two
breaks-ins in two days was not accurate, refuted the police source.
“We have to disagree, as the alleged
break-in at the tyre shop in Gadong was not reported to us as a
break-in case,” said the source.
“There was no report that the shop
was burgled or broken into at that time”, police said in a statement
to clarify the Bulletin’s report.
They only received a report that the
shop was on fire but nevertheless, police are continuing
investigations pending reports from the relevant departments, police
stated.
On the recent house break-in incident
in Jerudong, police said they are intensifying investigations to nab
the culprits who allegedly broke into the house of a couple and
disappeared with a substantial amount of cash and jewellery.
Police have interviewed several
individuals whom they believe can help in investigations. “It is hoped
that members of the public who may have any information of the
incident will come forward to the nearest police station or to contact
police hotline 993,” police said.
