Local Fined For Smuggling Alcoholic Drinks

Bandar Seri Begawan – A Magistrate Court in Bandar Seri Begawan fined a local man for violating Custom Act yesterday.

The court fined Mohammad Ali Bin Haji Ibrahim $7,200 or seven months imprisonment in default.

Mohammad Ali, a fisherman, was found guilty of smuggling 1,200 cans of alcoholic drink without permit which were hidden inside a fibreglass boat.

All the alcoholic drinks were ordered to be destroyed and the fibreglass boat with its two engines confiscated.

He was arrested at the jetty of his house in Kampong Sungai Teraban two days ago. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
